Unique Music At It’s Best…The Foxx Lounge, This Friday!

Filed under Announcement, Barrie Events, Barrie-Community Events, Barrie-The Foxx Lounge

This has yet to be the most varied and amazing show yet at The Foxx Lounge this Friday, May 8th, 2009!  Why so much excitement?  If you have ever been, then you know it is always a great time, but some outrageous talent will be gracing The Foxx Lounge stage for our entertainment.

Bands included this fabulous Friday are Mule Skinner, Two Bears and Meadowlark Five, quite the combination if you like to hear some musical styles that are not so often heard!

These bands truly define the idea of combining many styles they have enjoyed and making one great, new style of music that only they can reflect.

Mule Skinner is a duo from Niagra, ON who plays a great combination of some old blue grass and a kick of grunge.  Band members Matt Davis and Damien Florio give it to ya with their vintage-turned-modernized sound many, of all ages, can find depth and enjoyment within.  Check out some tunes here, and tell me you don’t love them.  With numerous shows already booked this summer, it is best to see them before they are on the big stage, sold out!

Two Bears is yet another duo, one I am more then excited to absorb, personally.  They truly take on the experimental vibe, as their band was formed out of pure experimentation.  Two guys, a sudden idea, new skills, wicked.  From what I hear, anyways.  These guys are something new, for sure, with a suspenseful show to come!

The last talents to fancy our ears with much pleasure are Meadowlark Five, a group of seven individuals making up a harmonious, insightful sound.  A love for such bands as Pink Floyd or Radiohead, with the various instrumentals and soft touch, you will thoroughly enjoy this set.

I am more than excited to be at this show and with any of the following tastes, so should you!  Don’t miss out!  The Foxx Lounge, presented by Shane Heath of One Star Studio, $5 and doors at 9:30 pm.  Be there!

Hit up Barrie’s best music hot spot for another Friday of fun!  When cruising the downtown strip on a party weekend, many seem to be drawn to The Foxx Lounge!

If you have not yet caught on, I will inform you:  The Foxx Lounge, where Shane Heath from Barrie’s own One Star Studio‘s always guarantees an amazing show with energy and excitement.  I am sure those who have attended have an array of different opinions.  In the positive light and for the majority, it is basically a great time with all sorts of music.  I think it is an adventure to wander in and not know exactly what you will hear, who you will hear.  All part of the fun!

Imagebee.netI have started to notice a usual crowd that gathers at The Foxx for the Friday night of mayhem.  These people are various minds alike that have found the treasure that lies within this retro-vibe lounge.  The gift of a bar that dedicates its Friday night business to the underground music crowd and those they support; just what our Barrie downtown culture needed!  Remember, this city is a hidden stream of culture and art, waiting to erupt into a colorful city of art and expression.  Big title?  Yes, and you bet the citizens within can live up to the standard.  Because I have seen it for myself, with every new eccentric soul I cross paths with.  Believe it, it’s here.

Indie, Metal, Punk, Ska, Rock in general, you shall hear something of the sort, that is, if you join us for such an event.  For those who find Barrie has made no room in the downtown spectrum for the not-so-mainstream music, check this out, with an open mind..of course!  People need people, preferably with similar tastes, and the out-of-the-norm now has a homestead! Encourage those around you to get involved in what they have been afraid of yet waiting for.

Imagebee.netThis Friday, April 24th, 2009, The Foxx and One Star Studio will be welcoming Chop Suicide, a past rock-punk favorite, especially among the male audience, for another insane night of performance and craziness.  Chop Suicide has been a merging success throughout our province and country, with their saucy rock n roll style.  Busy, but has not forgotten the Barrie fans they have gathered!  Boys, if you haven’t seen this band yet, check it out, you may have a new-found crush on the lead singer, who makes the ‘sauce’ a reality!  Hot stuff…

Accompanying Chop Suicide will be Buzz Deluxe! and Transwell, formally The Sallys.  Good combination for a night of ambitious punk rock with a twist of styles abroad that makes up a night of wild, spontaneous fun.

Check out all these wicked bands, you won’t be disappointed!

Sari Delmar from Audio Blood Media will be bringing her musical crew to our great city of Barrie for a night of awesome new-age indie tunes that I honestly think almost anyone could groove to.  Audio Blood Media constantly brings us great new talents to enjoy and for that we got to love it & support it!

The show will be held this Saturday, April 11th, 2009, at Oscar’s Restaurant, 52 Bayfield St., Barrie, ON, from 11 pm-2 am.

Dinosaur Bones and The Junction, underground indie rock groups, will be all the rage downtown at this event!

by Gigo ElmoselhiDinosaur Bones, Toronto born and described as concrete/indie style, is a huge merging success that is being recognized from near and far, as it is well deserved!  They have upcoming show dates at Edgefest and NXNE, an upcoming musical festival in Toronto, so you better check out this band!

The Junction will be joining us from Brampton, ON, to share with their experimental pop-rock sound tracks you can be sure to ‘sing along’ with.  Confused by the quotations?  Come to the show, you’ll get it!  They will have some new material for us so let’s give them our energy in return.  Fair trade?

Friends, strangers, art lovers alike, will gather at the Double Door Studio in Anten Mills, outside Barrie, for a opening night of discovery and questions.  Merging artist Louis Warpath will be displaying his new works, along with some other stand-outs from the past.  Take a look at the article on Louis’s work here to find out for yourself!

The exhibition will run from April 11th until April 26th, 2009, but the night of the opening reception, a great gathering and discussion will be Saturday, April 18th, 2009 starting at 2 pm-5 pm.  Expect to see many fascinating new things that will leave you questioning for the rest of the night!  Possibly the most thoughts to occur on a Saturday night..?

Imagebee.netVibes of all good nature will be set at this event, as the Double Door Studio is in an old barn with many distance memories yet open to so many new.  Once you have seen Louis Warpath’s work, you will understand why the connection between the setting and the art is so strong.  This is an official gallery with a historic base, so no need to worry when I say old barn.

I hope to see many of you there to share the experience!

Up and rising indie-rock bands will be all the rage on Friday, April 10, 2009 at The Fox Lounge, beside The Roxx Nightclub, on 46 Dunlop St., Barrie, ON.  Cover charge is $6 and of course, drinks are $2.50 before 11 pm.  Coming up from Toronto, Audio Blood Media and Barrie’s own One Star Studio are featuring some great bands that will be sure to rock you like a hurricane!

If you have ever been to The Foxx Lounge on a Friday than you know it is always a good time going with friends, making new friends and a good atmosphere overall.  One Star Studio always has a great band set to play for the avid music lovers, whether it be the indie rock vibe, metal rages or just plain rock, there is something good in store for us!

Friday, April 10th will be a night focused on the ever-growing indie-rock sound, which is so great if you love the array of instrumentals, harmonious vocals, various styles combined, or all of the above..

What bands will be enlightening our senses this Friday you may be wondering?
Individuals
Black Hat Brigade, an experimental compilation of big beat sound from Brampton are joining us!  They have their first EP out, titled “Fathers” and have an upcoming EP release this coming May 2009.

Photo By Brandyn BishopDo you recall the band ROCKETS!? Well they are back in action for a reunion show.  All band members having the obligation of school, the band was put on hold. Can’t go wrong with up and down guitar riffs, upbeat overall sound!

When you are having a blast in an atmosphere such as The Foxx Lounge, new-found home of our underground musicians, it is always good to hear some craziness, get down to some dance (total random) provoking jams that keep the energy flowing til the after party.  That is pretty much what will happen when Ages Of Men, a band whose members come from all the small towns mostly known in Ontario, with their electro hardcore-ness they seem to carry along with them.

DD/MM/YYYY will be tearin’ up a storm for us, as they have just released their new album “Black Square”.  They will be an amazing highlight to the night of magical music, there sound truly being like know other.  With very unique sounds that leave you wondering what made the sound in the first place, an orchestra of vocals creating the harmonious rhythm, lets get with this jive!
are they masks city?

See you there!

The Apathetics: Catch Up With Them, They Are Moving Quickly!

After their big hit show at Fitzy’s last Saturday, (March 28th), where they released their first album, Systematic Hypocrisy, they are on a roll for shows all over Central Ontario.  The Apathetics brought more then expected at Saturday’s show, provoking enthusiasm from their fans and rapidly adding to the base.  The energy circulating from there awaited performance at 12 am kept the party night going, many hoping it wouldn’t end.

As this band has been keeping it alive for five years now with their ska-punk sound, most avid music listeners can relate to the vibe and lyrical content The Apathetics throw the audience.  Maybe that style of music isn’t your thing?  I don’t think it matters, you may find yourself jiving to a new tune when you expose yourself to a show such as this.  Personally, I find it easier to absorb yourself in a new music style when they are underground musicians you can feel a connection to, because of their care-free attitudes.

Imagebee.netThe Apathetics headlining set was well complimented by the punk rock jams of Corporation and Ghetto Blasters; A perfect set of bands to anticipate the tracks from the new and first album Systematic Hypocrisy.  I see this musical compilation doing great things in the near future, but it looks like they have already begun!  With upcoming shows throughout our province, let’s hope they come your way.

I remember when I was younger, always looking for the all-ages music shows, and they were never hard to find.  My crew and I would always hear of one throughout our weeks of school, and if not you could always locate something going on, if you dig a little deeper.  These days it seems like all-ages shows are hard to come by, which is very unfortunate considering our youth culture feeds the flame to our underground music scene.  The reasons for this shortage of all ages events lie behind many factors I am sure, but I am hopeful we, as a community, will soon be able to bring it back!

Every once in a while, these shows do reign in and welcome the all-ages crowd, as they should more often.  On Sunday April 26th, you will find many musically-inclined people gathered for an event such as this.  At our Barrie Yuk Yuk’s Theater, a rather unusual venue, Shure and Supernova.com will be holding the Band on the Run 2009, a night sure to be filled with harmonizing musical variety.  The array of musical talent will be competing to win a 4 city tour!  Great opportunity!  City finals will be held at the Maclaren Arts Center soon after, so the anticipation will build.  Sounds of new style, riffs from an old rock touch, heavy sounds of classic metal, you will get a little bit of everything at this show.

I don’t know about you, but there is nothing I enjoy more then going to a show that holds heavy emphasis on VARIETY!  Not always so common, surprisingly!  Shows organized such as this, I feel, attract a much more diverse audience, which means, obviously, more people.  The point I am getting at is that with shows organized in this manner, with a wide selection of styles, the viewers can get in touch with sounds they may have never heard or never thought they would enjoy.  It opens our eyes and encourages us to be more open people, more open to the individuality.  It can be with music, food, art, whatever, we should all lead our lives with an open mind.  Why not start now if you haven’t already?

Just to give you guys an idea of what bands are gracing us with their musical presence, here is a list below.  Click the band and see what they are all about, or just join the party!  The show will be for all-ages, as said, but if you are 19+, don’t be discouraged.  Drinks will be available for your consumption, which I am sure those who are of age wanted to know!  It will be a good crowd of many ages, but we will all have one thing in common:  We love good music!  Check it out, tickets are $10 in advance @

http://www.Supernova.com

Bands playing at this event include: Big City Dreams, Box Social!, Jugular, Green Richard’s Band, Greenland Odyssey, Us!, Heartless Tragedy, Madu, Matthew Wendel, Metaharmony, Nahart, Peter Turns Pirate, Social Parallel, The Clockwork Trio, The Jig Is Up, Timelesswake, Torn From Arms and more.  The night will be featuring HollowPoint!

Friday Night’s At The Foxx: Live Music Throughout

A hidden hot spot in Barrie’s downtown spectrum, The Foxx Lounge is well known for the indisputable talented underground musicians every Friday night.  Some bands more widely known then others, all have a unique sound and style that most can relate to in some way or another.

One Star Studio, a recording studio based here in Barrie, is responsible for these eclectic musicians exposure at this retro-style lounge.  The owner and driving force for the studio, Shane Heath, keeps with ensuring an amazing show.  Always keeping a rainbow of colorful sounds projected throughout with the wide spread styles, this is what keeps the underground music scene alive, as far as I can see.  When I think seriously good local music, I think The Foxx Lounge.  As many have noticed, the availability for local shows has been slimming, but One Star Studio and The Foxx Lounge have kept the mainstream from conquering.

Typically, the style’s of music you will hear on Friday’s is a mix of metal-rock-indie bands from our area and beyond.  You will be able to find a complete review of upcoming talent’s brightening our Friday’s here, and those events in far advance will be reminded!  Soon enough there will be additional band profiles of all the local bands that visit our area, and it will expand from there…!  Check out the band listings for the upcoming 2 weeks!  Much more to come as time fly’s..
